Breaking down the bonus

Betting lines

Rivers online sportsbook offers virtually identical lines to its sister site, Play SugarHouse Sports. And that’s mostly a positive.

On the plus side, it doesn’t appear that the hefty 36% tax rate on sports betting revenue in Pennsylvania is having too much of an impact on the lines, as they parallel those on Play SugarHouse in the less-heavily taxed New Jersey market.

Furthermore, BetRivers offers the same relative odds but lower vig than Parx Casino Sportsbook (which also uses Kambi as its supplier) pretty much across the board, suggesting that there is rarely a reason to preference Parx over BetRivers, except in the case when a promotion is running on the former.

Pre-game MLB lines tend to be less juicier on BetRivers compared to FanDuel Sportsbook, although there is often more value to be had betting on underdogs on FanDuel. NFL point spreads and totals are the standard -110, but the moneyline vig is significantly lower on FanDuel (although value can be found on BetRivers).

Observed in-play lines were a mixed bag, sometimes dipping over the 25-cents on even money MLB bets. Same deal with futures and props. For instance, FanDuel boasts 20 cent lines on NBA team win totals, whereas BetRivers mostly offers 20-cent lines, but occasionally tips over to 21 – 25 cent lines.

Two- and three-leg parlays pay out slightly better than the industry average — 2.65:1 on two-legs, and 5.97:1 on three-legs (-110 wagers) — and teasers lines are definitely a highlight, thanks to the Kambi innovation Teaser+.

Rivers PA land-based sportsbook

Rivers opened up its temporary sportsbook on December 15, 2018 in tandem with SugarHouse. Both properties trailed Hollywood Casino, which had launched the state’s first book a month prior.

The temporary facility is situated on the south gaming floor near the high limit area, and occupies the space of an unsed cashier’s cage. The book spans 3,000 square feet, boasts a luxury sports lounge design, and has available seating for nearly 100 people.

Patrons can enjoy games on a large 14′ x 7′ LED video wall or watch their favorite events on a bank of 15 flat screen TVs. To place their bets, players have access to several cashier windows and self-service wagering kiosks.

Rivers’ permanent sportsbook will be bigger and better and is slated to open in the fall of 2019. According to plans unveiled during a PGCB meeting, the book will be located in the 5,500 square-foot space that previously housed the Levels Lounge. It will include seating for 195 patrons, and feature 18 betting kiosks and six betting windows.

After Play SugarHouse launched its online casino in New Jersey in 2016, then followed up by adding a virtual sportsbook in 2018, it became abundantly clear that it sister site, Rivers, would follow suit.
