Carvis Junious, MBA a native of Houston, Texas, grew up in Acres Homes (an inner city community) in a very modest household along with four siblings and nurturing parents. Carvis attended schools in the Aldine Independent School District. Immediately after graduating high school, Carvis was instantly drawn into Corporate America. While matriculating through the inner and outer workings of global logistics, Carvis quickly realized and seized the opportunity to form and establish his very own company, A-1 Air Cargo, Inc., a major name in the intercontinental freight forwarding industry, A-1 Air Cargo, Inc., creates efficient and flexible supply chains for its customers, offering services in Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and Ground Transportation logistics. Carvis Junious also is the Associate Superintendent of Schools for Northwest Preparatory Academy.

After years in Corporate America and working with individuals in the private sector, Carvis Junious realized the need to educate people, particularly those in the middle and lower class of society the importance of budget and estate planning, so he formed Life Precise Consulting, L.L.C., a tenured group of legal, accounting, technology, financial management, and personal business strategy professionals, who’s company mission statement is “The Essentials You Need Today…To Protect Your Tomorrow”. Their primary focus is to assist individuals in organizing and preparing their life essentials in the event of their incapacity or death.

When asked, what or who does he contribute his success to Carvis quickly replied “My love for Jesus Christ. I can look over my life and career and see both seasons of success as well as struggles and pitfalls,” says Carvis, “God has allowed it all. It’s all done with the purpose of the Lord drawing you closer to Him-getting you closer to where He wants you to be. And it can be painful sometimes until you reach the point where you can see it’s all been for a purpose, and that’s a true moment of awakening and rebirth.” Although Carvis Junious’s professional achievements are significant, he derives his greatest pleasure from his role as a mentor and spiritual leader.

Carvis is active in his community, and seeks to make life better for all around him. God blesses all of us with one gift, but Carvis Junious has been blessed with many gifts. He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Houston receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. Next Carvis went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Sam Houston State University. Presently Carvis is enrolled in the Higher Education Doctoral program at Texas Tech University.

Prior to joining the staff at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Carvis served as our percussionist. Carvis has been a dedicated member since 1994. Because of his maturity, keen discernment and loyalty, Carvis was appointed by Rev. Dr. Edwin A. Davis to be our church business administrator as well as a Trustee. His departments include: Information Systems, Accounting, Human Resources, and Administrative Services.

Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90-95% of diagnosed diabetes cases in this country and it represents one of the greatest threats to good health that Americans face. Untreated diabetes can lead to blindness through retinal degeneration, to kidney disease and subsequent kidney failure and to loss of limbs through poor circulation. Among adults, 20 years and older, more than one in 10 suffers from diabetes, and in seniors (65 and older), that figure rises to more than one in four. Type 2 diabetes affects 30 million people in the United States, 8 million of whom may be undiagnosed and unaware of their condition.

Type 2 Diabetes Risk Factors
However, Type 2 diabetes is a largely preventable disease. The risk factors which increase the likelihood of developing diabetes include excess weight, poor diet and lack of physical activity, all of which can be controlled. Another significant risk factor for development of diabetes is chronic dental infection and inflammation caused by gum disease.

About Periodontal Disease
Periodontitis is the clinical term for the disease that attacks the tissues that support your teeth. The attachment tissue between your gums and teeth and the bone that support and hold your teeth in place are subject to breakdown by bacteria that cause infection and inflammation. When periodontal disease becomes established in your mouth, the infection is chronic and ongoing. In its early and middle stages, periodontal disease is painless; a smoldering pathology that the victim is often completely unaware of. Allowed to progress unchecked, the teeth will eventually loosen, the infection will become acute and painful, and the patient may then seek help from a dentist.

Removal of the hopelessly involved teeth is often the only possibility. Most adult tooth loss is the result of bacterial destruction of the dentition through tooth decay or periodontal disease. And as bad as tooth loss is, there is a much larger, deadlier process at work. The long, slow breakdown of tooth-supporting tissues through periodontal infection creates
a chronic inflammatory process that contributes significantly to developing systemic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Research over the past three decades confirms chronic dental infection is a contributory risk factor, equal in significance to obesity or smoking. Research indicates 82% of diabetics with severe periodontal disease experience the onset of one or more major cardiovascular (heart attack), cerebrovascular (stroke), or peripheral vascular events (aneurysm), compared to only 21% of diabetics without periodontal disease.

About Inflammation
The link between periodontal disease and systemic disease is the ongoing action of our inflammatory response to infection. We’ve all seen how infected tissue will redden and become swollen. These events are part of the inflammatory response to tissue injury, mediated by our immune systems, that mobilize the infection-fighting apparatus. The inflammatory response to infection is a vital survival mechanism that protects us in the case of acute injury from trauma. But long-term, chronic infection like that of periodontal disease leads to a prolonged inflammatory response that continually releases chemicals The Importance of a Healthy Mouth
A healthy mouth can reduce your risk of diabetes, heart attack, stroke and hypertension. Dental therapy goes way beyond saving your teeth. Why not make an appointment for an examination? Your dentist and hygienist might just help save your life.
